MENOMéI_ HANDS ON MONUMENTS #1
Duratrans print and light box
The colloquial use of the term 'monument' created a distance between the word itself and its derivation from 'moneo', remembering. By qualifying history from a non-authoritarian perspective, indisputable dogmas and constructed truths reveal the need to a form of acknowledgment and fluidity of our point of view that goes beyond the conception of past and future as separated entities. Menomèi are illuminated hand-gloves that reveal places that failed to achieve sufficient attention. In a disturbing process of misplacement the first universal human imprint was installed and photographed in still mysterious neolithic caves between Sardinia and Tuscany, in a suspension between desire and imaginary, nostalgia and utopia. As we accepted that public monuments are an expression of hegemony and not even more a form that contains the spirit of a community, reveal 'real monuments' is an attempt to raise a renewed interest in our own origins and the original connection of different cultures.
