Descrizione
The work presents as an installation composed by a scenography setting and three-dimensional sculptural elements. The latter are plushies, soft cushions, representing body shapes that derive from digital and analogue manipulation of self-portrait images. The background element is obtained from the fabric discarded from the manufacture of the sculptural shapes. The project stems from a reflection on the liberation of the body from the limitations and violent constrictions dictated by the current patriarchal society. From two-dimensional images, the body becomes a silhouette, composed of abstract shapes, which finally take their form in three dimensions, freeing themselves from the constrictive material which they came from. These oppressed bodies act out the strenuous task of pursuing personal, social and political freedom, by committing the non-conformist acts of self-determination and deconstruction. Many bodies did not survive this task and are now broken and lifeless, only one is whole, although without strength, static, tired and distraught, wondering how to carry on and who to be.
